WordPress is the most popular CMS (Content management system) around the world and its popularity is getting higher day by day along with the risks of being hacked by black hat hackers.
This CMS is under open source license and developers around the globe work behind this system.
They regularly fix issues, problems and update the core system for more functionality, stability, security patches and these tasks are applied on old systems via “Update”, this is why we must update WordPress if new releases are available.
Preparations you should take before update:
If you update your system via auto installer, then there is little chance to have any issue though we recommend you have backup of database, images, plugins just to make sure if any issue arises, you have the chance to restore.
You can backup the CMS system from cPanel backup system or from WordPress panel via plugins. After the backup process is done, proceed to next steps.
Method 1: From Built-in System
You can update from the WordPress admin panel’s update link on 1 click. Just click the link one time and the update will be done automatically. Note that, website may be in maintenance mode for some time while it updates the system in the background and will be back online whenever it finishes the update task.
Enable or Disable WordPress update or how to update WordPress theme:
You can see whether your WordPress is automatic turn on or off, go to the link:
Xyz . com/wp-admin/update-core.php
And you will find the status. You can switch on and off the automatic update mode from there.
Method 2: Manually Update WordPress Using FTP
This is the manual way to update and users may find it quite difficult. Just login your hosting server and go to the root location for file upload. Upload the zipped WordPress file on the root and unzip/extract them. When the extraction is finished, type:
Xyz . com/wp-config.php or Xyz . com/wp-config
and step by step you will proceed to set up tasks. Most of the time, you will not have any issue with the MySQL database and user creation, but in some cases you will need to manually create MySQL database and user.
Method 3 : Plugins
You can use wordpress update plugin for upgrading purposes also. Simplest update procedure, just install this plugin and it will notify you whenever update is possible and ask you for actions.
